When the CCD block is fitted to the split adaptor, it provides a very compact unit, ideal for shooting in tight spaces, such as in a car, or for use on a motorbike. It may be hand held, or fitted to any traditional camera mounts.

The HKC-T1500 "split" adapter for the HDC1500 and HDC1550 multi-format high-definition cameras increases the flexibility of Sony's multi-format high-definition cameras, by allowing the image sensor assembly to be physically separated from the camera body, using up to 50 metres of multicore cable. This results in a very compact imaging assembly which may be hand held, or located to provide unique "point of view" shots. Designed for the HDC-1500 and HDC-1550 models, it supports 1080/50p operation as well as colour viewfinders such as Sony's new HDVF-C35W.
